What is Botox?

Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin. When your doctor at Mohs Surgery & Dermatology Center injects Botox into a muscle, it temporarily blocks nerve signals that trigger muscle contraction.

As the treated muscle relaxes, the wrinkles caused by that muscle disappear or they’re significantly diminished.

What Wrinkles are Treated with Botox?

Over time, your face develops two types of wrinkles. One type, called static wrinkles, develop from age-related changes such as loss of collagen, dehydration, and thinning skin. Dynamic wrinkles, on the other hand, are caused by the repetitive muscle movements that occur when you make facial expressions such as frowning.

Botox takes care of muscle-associated dynamic wrinkles, including:

When Will I See Botox Results?

How Do Dermal Fillers Work?

Dermal fillers diminish wrinkles by restoring facial volume that’s lost as you get older. Everyone has a natural layer of fat below the skin that adds just enough volume to give you a healthy appearance.

Over time, the fat thins out and tends to drop out of place, which gives you a gaunt look and contributes to wrinkles. Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally produced by your skin that adds hydration and structure.

When hyaluronic acid is carefully injected just below wrinkles around your nose and mouth, or in areas of your face that need volume like your cheeks, the volume is restored and wrinkles are diminished.

When Will I See Results From a Dermal Filler?
